Baby Pantry - Gratiot County

Since March 1999 -- the Gratiot County Baby Pantry has existed to help meet the emergency basic needs of infants and children. The long-term goal of the baby pantry is to decrease family stress and to promote family health. We offer diapers, formula, jar baby food, clothing and other baby and children’s supplies to parents in need. Parents receive limited amounts of these items once a week. Volunteers also help identify resources for clients who need help in other areas of their lives. Other resources include a lending library that parents can use to help improve their parenting skills.

The Baby Pantry is open every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is available to all families in need with children age 4 ½ and under. For more information call contact Cindy Havens at 989-463-3209 or stop in at 205 E. Superior Street in Alma.

Emergency Food & Shelter Services - Lansing Area

The American Red Cross Mid-Michigan Chapter provides service every day of the year, to people who needed emergency help with basic needs. In 2005, assistance was provided to over 6,000 people including food, personal need items, formula, diapers and emergency shelter.

Food, Diapers and Baby Formula Assistance

These items are available to eligible clients, once every two months, to meet emergency needs until the next business day. This program is meant for unexpected emergencies only and is available evenings from 5 PM until 7 PM and on weekends from 12 noon to 2 PM. Referrals are given to agencies providing daytime assistance that may be of further help.

Shelter Assistance

Red Cross staff and volunteers work with area public shelters to secure space for homeless clients. In the event that shelters are full and certain other criteria are met, a motel room may be provide by the Red Cross until the next business day. It is then the client's responsibility to get in touch with the Red Cross the next business day to determine further eligibility and to get additional assistance.

Volunteers are needed to staff the office to assist those in need from
5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday - Friday and 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekends and holidays, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

For more information about the program, please call 517-484-7461 or
